Weber County approves 2026 RAMP major grant awards after heavy demand

County commissioners on April 7 accepted the Recreation, Arts, Museums and Parks (RAMP) Board recommendations for 2026 major grants, voting unanimously to approve the awards after a public presentation by RAMP board volunteer Kevin Burns.
Burns told commissioners RAMP collected $6.6 million this year and said the fund, divided into thirds for major grants and other categories, saw substantially more requests than available funding: he reported roughly $3 million more in major grant requests and about $2 million more in arts and museums requests than could be funded. Burns also noted that about $78.99 million in RAMP funds has been distributed countywide over roughly 20 years.
Commissioners praised the volunteer board and county staff for administering the program. Tom Hansen, Washington Terrace city manager, and others from municipalities had earlier thanked the board for RAMP’s pooled approach to recreation funding that supports local projects. The board’s recommendations were moved, seconded and approved by voice vote.
County staff said remaining funds in parks and recreation allocations will be reallocated to arts and museums or majors as appropriate to exhaust the RAMP account each year, consistent with program rules.
