Roseland honors student essayists and thanks Recreation Director Mike Kitty on his retirement

At the May 20 meeting Roseland recognized local student essayists and celebrated Recreation Director Mike Kitty, who is retiring after more than three decades of service.
The mayor read an essay by Isabella Gerrio, a semi-finalist in the New Jersey League of Municipalities scholarship competition; council members congratulated her for work describing Roseland’s community and volunteer programs. Students from kindergarten through sixth grade read essays for Mother of the Year awards and were applauded by the council.
Mayor and council members publicly thanked Mike Kitty for his years leading the recreation department; Kitty will retire in approximately 10 days, and the borough expects Tedesco Park renovations to be complete over the summer with reopening planned for the fall. The mayor also highlighted the town picnic scheduled for June 7 and other summer programs; county liaison Jan Salvante reviewed county concert and fireworks schedules and fishing-derby dates.
Council members noted a successful food drive that collected about 38 bags for the Roseland food pantry and discussed Memorial Day plans, a parade, and the rededication of a refurbished cannon by an Eagle Scout.
