Modesto City Schools board convenes, moves into closed session; public comments will be transcribed

The Modesto City Schools Board of Trustees met on July 28, 2025, established a quorum and convened to closed session after the board’s clerk outlined how public comments on closed-session items will be handled.

President Mesus declared that a quorum was present and called the regular meeting to order. “Welcome to the Modesto City Schools 1,527th regular board meeting of July 28th, 2025,” President Mesus said as the board began its session.

The clerk explained the board’s procedure for public comments related to items the board plans to discuss in closed session: comments submitted by email or voicemail following the posting of the agenda and prior to noon the day of the meeting will not be read aloud during the meeting but will be transcribed, printed and provided to each board member; those written/voicemail comments will also be attached to the meeting minutes that are approved later.

At roll call, Trustees Brown, Daly, Lopez and Marks responded present; Trustee Irvin was not present at the time of roll call; Vice President Mahia and President Mesus also indicated they were present. After asking whether anyone wished to make comments related to closed-session items and hearing none, the clerk announced that the board would convene in closed session.
