County Administrator Mr. Carpenter won approval to purchase a truck and a dump trailer from the solid waste fund (fund balance shown in the packet at roughly $570,000) to stand up a second inmate‑crew litter team. Carpenter said the department can staff the program within existing personnel and that the trailers and truck will reduce time lost to trips to the landfill. The motion to buy the equipment passed unanimously.
Emergency Manager Jarvis also reported receipt of EMS equipment acquired under a 100%‑funded grant (items included a stair chair and a 14‑ft tandem trailer) and the board approved entering the related SMAC agreement.
The board approved a one‑third match payment of about $91,000 toward the Spring Street Linkage Project (a Transportation Alternatives Program project delivered in partnership with the City of Starkville and Mississippi State University) and authorized cutting the check.
Road Manager Vic Collins presented the road report and the board approved a school bus turnaround at 187 Lakeside Drive, authorized a ditch stabilization at 1942 16th Section Road, and approved multiple culvert requests. Several routine items were passed by unanimous voice vote.
Separately, a request to permit a sewer connection in a county right‑of‑way for a new church near Highway 182/82 was tabled after supervisors asked the county engineer to review permits and specifications before the board acts.
What’s next: staff will implement the litter‑team equipment purchase, finalize the SMAC agreement, cut the Spring Street match check and provide engineer feedback on the sewer permit at a future meeting.
