Banner County surveyor warns NDOT resurfacing will disturb section corners; county will invoice state for resetting

Carl Gilbert, Banner County surveyor, told commissioners on April 7 that recent survey work identified missing section and quarter corners across a six‑mile stretch east of Harrisburg and that NDOT’s upcoming Highway 71 resurfacing is expected to grind out many corner monuments.
Gilbert said the county has a prior agreement under which Banner County invoices NDOT for tying and resetting corners after highway construction and that the county will need to coordinate timing with the state contractor and NDOT staff. He said the work may occur quickly and that the county will need to mobilize survey crews to preserve and re‑establish section corners.
Commissioners thanked Gilbert and asked staff to ensure invoices and contractor coordination are in place once NDOT sets a project date.
