The Chico Unified School District board on Nov. 20 approved a facilities recommendation to hire Russell Galloway & Associates (RGA) of Chico to provide programming and conceptual planning services for a permanent Blue Oak Charter School campus.
District facilities staff said RGA will meet with Blue Oak teachers, leaders and students to define needs, produce a conceptual plan and provide a cost estimate. The firm proposed $37,500 for services that staff said will start in December and conclude in March; the district will return the plan and cost estimate to the board before any construction dollars are committed.
Blue Oak representatives, including TR (facilities chair) and others, thanked district staff for support and described a long community effort to secure a permanent campus. "Working with the district through this process has been amazing," a Blue Oak representative said, and attendees reported strong community interest in the project.
Why it matters: Selecting a planner is the first design step toward a permanent site for Blue Oak and is funded from measures that voters approved, district officials said. The conceptual plan and cost estimate will determine whether the project moves to detailed design and funding allocation.
