Commission grants two-year extension for Desert Rose final plat

The Planning and Zoning Commission granted a two-year extension to record the final plat for the Desert Rose project (Z 24002; S 23003, Ordinance 202408) at its May 7 meeting.
Staff described the 4.8-acre parcel (Parcel G of Chaparral Terrace Estates) off Riverview Drive and San Carlos Drive and said the zoning request shifted the approved concept from higher-density multifamily (previously allowing up to 88 units) to a single-family planned area development that would allow 44 units. "Looks to me like it would more fit the neighborhood," the Chair said during discussion.
There was no public comment on the item. A commissioner moved to accept the requested extension for two additional years; the motion was seconded and Commissioner Kramer voted aye by Zoom. Clerk recorded '6 in favor' and the motion carried.
The extension allows more time for the developer to meet recording requirements, including acquiring additional access land that staff said delayed earlier progress.
