A resident who said they live on the affected stretch urged the change, telling the council, “This is a really good idea. Don't pass it up,” and called the reduction “long overdue,” citing hazardous left turns and seasonal youth-sports traffic.
The council moved and seconded the ordinance’s first reading as described in the agenda (an amendment to Chapter 140, controlled access facilities, specifically speed limits on Highway 3). A roll-call vote was recorded and the motion carried with recorded affirmative votes.
The ordinance is at first reading; further readings or a final vote will be required before new speed limits take effect.
