Board members reviewed a capital-improvement packet that included a $720,000 contract recommendation for phase two of district roofing work.
Superintendent presentation materials showed an RSMeans third-party cost estimate of about $754,000. Four vendors provided proposals; two were above the RSMeans value and two were at or below it. The district’s purchasing partner recommended the low responsible bidder (recorded in the packet as Sent Mark at $720,000, with Building Technicians Corporation at $743,900), and Trimco/Ohio Schools Council/AEAsupported procurement and oversight. The district plans to fund the project from a planned transfer to the permanent-improvement fund tied to the capital plan and anticipates construction beginning around June 5 with a targeted completion around Aug. 15.
The board also addressed contract language: a contractor’s draft included a paragraph that would have required the owner to release the contractor from claims related to pre-existing mold and similar conditions. After review by legal counsel, the district requested removal of that broad release; the contractor agreed to revise the language and the board’s counsel confirmed the edited clause met the district’s concern about unacceptable liability releases.
Superintendent and staff said warranties and oversight provisions will remain in place and Trimco will provide field advisory oversight during construction. The board approved the procurement documentation as part of the consent/contract actions recorded at the meeting.
