Dr. Romano told the Blue Springs R‑IV board the district hosted a community 'time around the table' session attended by close to 100 people that focused on artificial intelligence, online safety and practical family conversations about technology.
The event included a short presentation on AI in schools led by Dr. Martin and Carrie Hope Gravby, followed by practical guidance from Chief Russell and Student Services on online safety at home and in the community. Families received dinner through the Blue Springs Education Foundation and worked at tables on activities — including exercises comparing AI‑generated images with real media — so parents and children could discuss how to evaluate digital content.
"It was very positively attended," Dr. Romano said, adding that participants asked for more breakout and one‑on‑one tutoring opportunities so families could get hands‑on help with devices and settings. Board members praised the event as an accessible way to educate parents and reduce fear around technology by giving families shared language and resources.
Staff said the program model may be repeated and expanded in future community connection events.
