On recording, staff said the policy will more clearly define permissible recording during meetings or employee conversations and outline district procedures. On sick leave, the proposed revision would remove a provision limiting the number of sick days a new employee can use in their first semester; the change is intended to allow the district to respond to extenuating circumstances without an artificial cap.
The new intellectual property policy (policy 2.19) would require businesses or external parties seeking to use district marks, mascots or logos to submit an approval form; board members asked whether the district will post a form on its website and how the approval process will be administered. "We will have a form and can put that on our website," one staff member said during discussion.
Board members noted some local vendors appear to sell apparel that resembles district marks without prior authorization; staff said the policy will give the district a clearer mechanism to request removal or require permission. The policy will return for a final vote at a regular board meeting.
No formal vote was taken at the work session; staff said the intellectual property policy will come back for a secondary (final) reading at the next regular meeting.
