Saranac Lake board reviews goals, hears administrators on academics and events

The Saranac Lake Central School District Board reviewed an updated set of annual goals intended to give future boards a roadmap for recurring items and responsibilities. Members agreed to develop an onboarding outline for new board members and to work toward a draft after the new year.
Administrators provided reports from across the district. Administrator Amy described a revised middle-school academic eligibility procedure implemented with Sean Ryan: teachers will identify students failing two or more classes earlier than the prior five-week timeline, teams will meet, and students placed on short-term academic eligibility may be restricted from travel or extracurricular participation until they meet the required standards.
Other administrators reported school events and family engagement activities: awards breakfasts, a televised NBC5 "weather at your school" visit, a children's author visit, a Veterans Day assembly with about 15 veterans in attendance, upcoming parent-teacher conferences and a National Honor Society induction. A student representative summarized fall sports wrap-up, upcoming area all-state events and that the district completed its first-quarter academic reporting.
Board members thanked staff for the reports and agreed to continue work on goals and onboarding timelines in the coming months.
