The Aine City Council on June 12 approved several administrative and operational items including a new waste services contract, a credit‑card purchasing policy and a range of routine actions.
Finance presented a proposed city credit‑card purchasing policy and the council supported the policy. Council also authorized the mayor to execute a contract with the city’s new waste services provider. Council discussion flagged that the contract will change curbside recycling practices: plastic bags will no longer be accepted, cardboard contaminated with reinforced tape may need to be discarded, and some accepted materials will shift depending on market acceptance. The contractor is required under the new agreement to provide annual public education and reporting on tons collected.
Robert Swander (contract representative) told the council the contract includes educational outreach and data reporting. Council members said they will work with the contractor to provide local outreach and to review state‑level recycling policies to reduce waste.
Other approved items included authorizing the sale of a surplus 2006 Acura (APD vehicle 392) with proceeds to return to the drug forfeiture fund; adoption of the 2024–2029 Homeland Security Region 3 mutual aid agreement; and adding two buildings — listed at 121 East Market Street and the Aine Library side building at 202 South K Street — to the local historic register.
Council members asked staff to provide clearer expense reporting (for example, a line that appeared to show a large sum for 'staff person assigned to downtown cleanup' was explained as aggregated wages and staff agreed to improve clarity in future reports).
Votes on routine business were taken during the meeting; the council recorded approvals and moved to adjourn at the meeting’s close.
