Yukon schools honor Miller Strong students during board meeting

Elementary winners included Evelyn Anderson (Central Elementary) and Violet McLendon (Myers Elementary); Parkland’s honoree was Ezekiel Chenal, Ranchwood’s Charlie Johnson and other elementary winners were recognized by their principals. Secondary and middle-school winners included Lucy Rushing (Independence), Ellis Halton (Lake View), Brinley Zod (Redstone Intermediate), Presley McKinnon (Yukon Middle School), Abigail Prit (Yukon High School) and Tasia Veram Mones (Yale), among others.
Board members and attendees applauded each student; principals briefly described the behaviors that led to each nomination—examples included helping classmates, showing leadership, and advocating for peers on social media to support a targeted student. The meeting paused briefly afterward for group photos and a short musical interlude before business items began.
The recognitions were presented as part of the board's public portion of the meeting; no policy or budget action was associated with the awards. The meeting then moved into routine business items and committee communications.
