Board fills vacancy: Amanda Huber appointed after resolution honoring Lauren Nelson

Director Bankis moved to appoint Amanda Huber; the motion was seconded and approved by roll call. After the vote the board administered the oath of office to Huber, who thanked members and said she looked forward to serving through the Nov. 4 election.
Earlier in the meeting, the board read and approved Resolution 2026-07 recognizing Lauren Nelson’s service. Board members praised Nelson’s work on district finance and student-focused budgeting; Nelson accepted the tribute and thanked colleagues.
Why it matters: The appointment fills a temporary vacancy on the seven-member board and ensures full participation in upcoming votes on budget, school improvement plans and other fall business. Huber will serve until the board members elected on Nov. 4 are sworn in.
