Mayor reports Greenley Avenue curb work, sinkhole repairs and new speed cushions

Mayor Jonathan Sto updated the St. Bernard Village Council committee on road and traffic-calming projects during its Sept. 11 meeting. He said contractor Athleta is finishing water facility work and plans to begin curb replacement on the east side of Greenley Avenue next week and then shift to the west side. "They'll complete all the concrete work on that side of the street, curb ramps, miscellaneous sidewalk," Sto said.
Sto said crews from the Metropolitan Sewer District (MSD) are on site making three sewer-tap repairs that have caused sinkholes in the street and that the timing of that work is uncertain because MSD does not always provide advance notice. He also reported that Sullivan will receive two large speed cushions, each roughly 30 feet wide and two inches tall; their size could require eliminating parking on either side of the devices and complicate snow removal. Council members were told the second speed cushion location on Langley is still being determined and the installation date is to be set.
The mayor said pool loop paving and restoration at Vine Street Park is complete and that the municipal lot shared by the village, the Eagles and Fifth Third Bank will be closed for milling and paving on Tuesday, Oct. 16 and Wednesday, Oct. 17. He thanked interim public services director Tim Williams for his service and welcomed incoming director Mark Wendling, who will start Monday. "So life is good in St. Bernard and I'm excited for our future," Sto said.
A council member asked whether notices would be posted at the fitness center ahead of the municipal-lot paving; Sto said he would ensure a posting in addition to an email already distributed. The report provided timing, scope and potential neighborhood impacts but did not include a firm completion date for the MSD repairs.
