The board voted to adopt Resolution 22 to use $289,154 from capital reserves to purchase touch-interactive screens that will replace projectors and whiteboards in elementary classrooms.
Director Sergeant, who presented the finance and facilities report, explained the technology purchase and said the goal is equity across elementary schools: "This would replace the projectors and whiteboards in all of the other schools and make these devices available so it's equity among all of our elementary schools." The motion to adopt Resolution 22 passed with 11 members voting in the affirmative.
Sergeant also reported the district received a School Revolving Renovation Fund (SRRF) award of $554,575 for Georgie E. Jack; the district will pay half and the state will pay the other half. Board members said the SRRF award is intended to cover necessary rooftop HVAC units as a maintenance measure while the school remains on a longer-term replacement list.
The committee noted surplus school buses will be offered first to member towns; if declined they will be made available to the general public through a sale process.
What happens next: Capital reserves will be used to fund the touchscreen purchase; facilities staff will manage procurement and installation. The Georgie E. Jack SRRF project will move forward to schedule rooftop-unit work and the district will coordinate matching funds with the state award.
