Cameron Parish police jury approves appointments, tax correction, and routine business

The Cameron Parish Police Jury on July 24 handled a slate of routine business, approving multiple appointments and reappointments to parish boards, ratifying capital outlay paperwork, adopting corrected millage figures and authorizing personnel and traffic actions.
Throughout a largely procedural session, the jury approved corrections and reappointments across a range of local boards. The chair reported a correction to a previously recorded appointment for a library/water-control post and moved to reappoint or appoint representatives for the Cameron Wastewater District No. 1 (Ruben Dy appointed after the transcript notes Joe Das did not qualify), several fire districts, a drainage board, recreation and hospital districts, and tourism commissions. The jury also forwarded three port board nominations (Matthew Deval, Cheyenne Buro and Ronald D.) to the governor’s office for appointment.
On tax rates, the chair clarified that the earlier adoption used a 2.72 mills figure but that the general courthouse/jail line should be 2.64 mills; the jury approved the corrected millage rates. The chair read the correction aloud before the motion to re-adopt the millage was approved.
Other approvals included: authorization to hire a full-time human resources employee; approval to advertise an ordinance correcting the geographic boundary for Hackberry Fire Protection District No. 1; authorization to advertise lowering posted speed limits from 25 mph to 15 mph on two local roads; ratification of capital outlay documents for fiscal year 2023–24; acceptance of monthly financial statements and budget-to-actual comparisons; and approval of bills to be paid. The chair stated an $800 payment for a legislator luncheon was approved.
Most motions were made, seconded and recorded in the transcript as passing with the board voting "all in favor." The jury also entered an executive session later in the meeting and reported "no action" taken upon returning to open session.
