Captain Demo told the borough commissioners that the Wildwood Crest Police Department responded to 2,159 calls for service in May, "1,279 requiring multiple officers," and that officers conducted 116 criminal investigations and processed 23 arrests.
"We also conducted 490 training hours," Captain Demo said, and reminded residents that fireworks are prohibited on borough beaches and parks. He said the department will staff enforcement during the holiday weekend and during a Summershore pedestrian awareness campaign scheduled to run July 1 through July 30.
The captain introduced a redesigned Wildwood Crest Police Department website that he said is more user-friendly and ADA-compliant. "One feature I really like: 'submit your cameras,'" Captain Demo said. He explained residents and businesses can register surveillance cameras and set preferred contact options so officers can quickly pull footage to assist investigations.
The site also includes a tips portal, alert signups and a community interface for event requests. Captain Demo said the department will use the site to push missing-person notices and other timely updates to residents.
Commissioners did not debate or take formal action on the report; the captain invited questions and offered to coordinate with records staff on whether police reports could eventually be requested through the portal.
