County updates: transfer station door contract, hazardous-materials training, siren repair estimate and sheriff vehicle upfits

Woodson County commissioners on April 14 approved a contract for the Transfer Station to replace a door and received updates on hazardous-materials training, sheriff vehicle upfits, and a malfunctioning emergency siren.
Solid Waste director David Waddell reported no additional bids for the replacement door and that a standard door would cost more than replacing the existing style. Commissioners approved a contract with Shepard Farms for $1,285.09 to be paid from the Equipment Reserve Courthouse Fund; the motion was moved by Commissioner Kevin Stuber and seconded by Commissioner Jerry Sedlacek.
Waddell said he and an employee identified as Chris will attend hazardous materials training next week to become certified to handle hazardous materials at the Transfer Station.
Sheriff Jacob Morrison reported two new sheriff trucks are currently being upfitted and said he has been unable to reach the ESU representative about reimbursement owed to the county; he said he will continue efforts to resolve that issue.
Emergency Management/EMS official John Atkin reported that Toronto sirens are operational except for the unit at the Point and said, "Replacement is estimated at $18,000." Atkin recommended removing the siren for inspection to determine if repair is feasible; no repair or replacement authorization appears in the minutes.
