The Normal Town Council on April 6 approved a $773,542.63 contract to J.G. Stewart Contractors for 2026 miscellaneous sidewalk improvements, a 50/50 sidewalk program and ADA ramps.
Council member Karen Smith pulled the item from the omnibus agenda to highlight recent work and asked Public Works staff how much sidewalk had been repaired under the 2025 contract. Public Works staff Ms. Reese said the 2025 work covered over 44,000 square feet of sidewalk—roughly two miles—and described how residents can request consideration for the current program by calling City Hall, contacting public works by phone or email, or using an online form on the town website.
The contract award was approved by roll call with Council members Preston, Lorenz, Byers, Roberson, Karen Smith and Mayor Koos recorded as 'Aye.' Council emphasized continuing the annual sidewalk repair program to maintain pedestrian accessibility and ADA compliance.
