Macomb reports $17.39 million in awarded grants; downtown occupancy at 92%

Director of Grant Administration Jessica Biddenstat said the city has 28 awarded grants totaling $17,391,562.90 and is working to implement about nine grants representing roughly $1,757,957.90. She noted the city recently received the grant agreement for a ‘‘Safe Streets for All’’ award and is reviewing the agreement for submission. Biddenstat said additional applications are pending and that award totals for the fiscal year were summarized in the written packet.
Downtown Development Director Savannah Ballard said downtown occupancy was at 92%, with six available properties for redevelopment, and reviewed outreach efforts including a downtown newsletter and a newly launched community event calendar. Ballard noted that a TJ Maxx ribbon-cutting post achieved strong engagement—more than 1,000 likes and roughly 500,000 views—illustrating local interest in downtown activity.
Both directors invited questions and said staff will continue grant pursuit and downtown-event planning over the summer.
The council did not take action on grants at this meeting; staff will return with specific funding requests and program-level recommendations as awards are finalized.
