Paducah Planning Commission backs allowing NatureMed branded signage in zoning definition

The Paducah Planning Commission on March 2 unanimously recommended that the Paducah Board of Commissioners adopt a text amendment to Section 126-3 of the Paducah zoning ordinance to permit NatureMed, a medical cannabis dispensary operator, to use its branded logo and colors on signage.
Staff presented the amendment and recommended approval. "The NatureMed logo is an essential part of our business identity and functions primarily as wayfinding and brand identification, not cannabis promotion," Mr. Summers, the planning staff presenter, said, describing the lotus symbol and the chain's green-and-orange color scheme. He told the commission branded signage helps patients and customers safely locate a licensed business in a highly regulated industry.
The commission opened and closed a public hearing on the amendment; no members of the public spoke. Commissioner Jim Chapman moved that the commission adopt a resolution recommending adoption of case TXT2026-00001 (an amendment to Section 126-3). The motion was seconded and approved by roll call vote, recorded as unanimous.
The recommendation from the Planning Commission will be transmitted to the Paducah Board of Commissioners for final action under the city's ordinance-change procedures. The Planning Commission record and staff packet include an example of a NatureMed location from Erlanger, Kentucky, which staff said informed the request to allow consistent branding across the operator's multi-state locations.
