The DeSoto Parish police jury voted to reappoint Randy Rogers, Brian Davlin and Philip Clark to four-year terms on the parish Planning Commission after a heated discussion about attendance and a failed alternate motion to also remove Kathy Wells and Roger Tharp.
A juror proposed removing commissioners who had low attendance — citing one member at 29% attendance this year and another at 14% — and said the planning commission should consider times that enable working residents to attend. The alternate motion to reappoint the three named members while also removing Wells and Tharp failed; the jury then approved the original motion to reappoint Rogers, Davlin and Clark.
Brian Davlin, who said he serves on the planning and zoning board, asked to remain on the board and noted his experience. Jurors discussed that the planning commission had changed its meeting start time from 5:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. about a year and a half earlier to accommodate staff, and some jurors said reverting to an evening time could improve attendance. Several jurors asked that the planning commission itself consult members about an acceptable meeting time and report back.
Separately, the jury accepted the resignation of Ashley Hadwin (term scheduled through 2028) and took nominations for her replacement; Matthew Raines and Blake Bizzaca were nominated and jurors said they would vote on appointments at the regular meeting in two weeks.
