The Fallbrook Union Elementary School District governing board on Monday approved travel for district representatives to a national advocate conference and completed routine consent business that included personnel actions and the introduction of new management team members.
The board voted to authorize travel for three district representatives to attend the National Association for Federally Impacted Schools (NAFIS) conference in Washington, D.C., Sept. 22—6. Registration for the conference was listed as $700 per attendee and the administration estimated an approximate total cost of $4,000 per person to be paid from superintendent, board and business services travel budgets. A trustee explained that Fallbrook is a federally impacted district and that advocacy on Impact Aid funding can yield material support; the board approved the recommendation.
The board also approved the consent agenda, which the superintendent said included routine personnel requisitions. Following that vote, the board introduced three new management team members: Kathy Hernandez, named assistant principal at May Ellis (introduced by the superintendent); Christa Notel, named assistant principal at Live Oak; and Martin Culberson, the district's new director of information technology. Each new appointee offered brief remarks about priorities for student growth, literacy and technology.
The superintendent and trustees noted that two after-school staff members had been honored at the San Diego County level for work in expanded learning, and the board thanked volunteers and staff for recent community events. The meeting adjourned at 6:45 p.m.
Actions recorded in the meeting minutes show motions to approve minutes from previous meetings, to authorize travel to the NAFIS conference, and to approve the consent agenda and associated personnel items; each motion was adopted and no budgetary appropriation beyond the described travel funding sources was recorded on the public record at the meeting.
