Oak Park honors four officers after Sept. 3 life-saving response

Oak Park’s City Council on Monday recognized four public-safety officers for administering life-saving aid to a 64-year‑old woman who suffered cardiac arrest on Sept. 3, 2025. Director of Public Safety Steve Cooper presented merit citations to Officers Nathan Mallo, Zachary Harper, Elizabeth Dwey and Maxmleian Hill for their “swift and decisive actions.”
Cooper told the council officers were dispatched to the 24,000 block of Coolage at about 7:10 a.m., found the woman unresponsive and began CPR. Universal Alliance paramedics assumed primary medical care at about 7:25 a.m., and the victim regained a pulse at about 7:41 a.m. She was transported to Providence Hospital for further treatment. Cooper said the officers’ actions “were instrumental in saving a life.”
The woman identified in council remarks as Ronda Ry addressed the chamber in person. “I would not be standing here if it wasn’t for their quick response,” she said, thanking the officers for their efforts and reporting that she is doing well and has been fitted with an external defibrillator as part of ongoing care.
Mayor Mlullen and council members applauded the department’s training and recruitment. Mayor Pro Tem Tim Whitehead and City Manager Eric Tungate later previewed a demonstration of the city’s new drone capability, which staff said will support responses to fires, missing persons and other emergency operations.
The council presented the citations as part of its regular meeting; no formal action beyond the recognition was required. City staff said the department will continue recruiting and training to sustain emergency-response capacity.
