Board honors student representative Elijah Shank and hears updates on grants, assessments and events

The board read and approved a resolution of appreciation recognizing Elijah Shank for his service as the student representative to the board from Oct. 5, 2022, to June 30, 2024. Board members praised his thoughtful input and said student representation provides valuable perspective.
Administrators reported several operational and programmatic updates. Katie said the district is finishing year three of the Samson grant, serving about 28–30 students with social-emotional needs and noting families receive associated services; staff said early data show improved student functioning and attendance. Katie also said unused grant funds for unfilled positions may allow applying for an extension to continue services beyond year three at no cost.
The district is rolling out a multi-tier system of supports for behavior; about 40 staff will be trained June 12 on the Frontline system to centralize tier-two and tier-three intervention data for implementation in September. Administrators described successful fifth-grade orientation to middle school, career day, field days and a Colgate University fellow joining the staff to support literacy work.
The board also heard logistical updates: building assessments are underway, staff are measuring rooms and finance staff are coordinating debt-service implications; a goal was set to complete the building assessment by June 30 to inform planning.
