Davenport school board awards construction and service contracts, approves 2.8% superintendent pay increase

The board next voted to award the Armory House and Barn demolition project to McCarthy Creek Construction in the amount of $129,900. Director Potts moved the motion. Director Beck raised concerns about the barn’s historical significance and asked whether documentation had been completed before demolition proceeds; administration responded that photos and documentation had been taken. Director Beck recorded a “no” vote, saying, “I’m going to vote no just because I’m not comfortable with this,” but the motion carried.
The board approved a $660,000 contract with Bray Architects for renovation of the JB Young Children’s Village, a communication-infrastructure award for the North athletics project to Reconstruction for $409,300, and a juvenile court school liaison contract for fiscal year 26/27 in the amount of $175,000. All of those motions were moved, seconded and approved by voice vote as recorded in the meeting.
Separately, the board approved an amendment to the superintendent’s employment agreement calling for a 2.8% wage increase; the motion text as stated in the meeting referenced "07/3027" in connection with the wage change. The motion was moved and seconded and carried by voice vote.
Board discussion on contracts was limited to clarifying questions about project scope and timelines. Long-range facility planning updates noted bids for roofing and preschool remodeling at JB Young with an anticipated move-in for Sudlow students around January (noted as January 1 in the planning remarks) and broader project completion targeted for May 2027.
No formal appeals or holds on awarded contracts were recorded during the meeting; several board members requested that staff share any additional historical documentation related to the Armory barn prior to demolition.
