The River Dell Regional School District board approved a resolution urging the governor and state Legislature to provide immediate short-term relief from recent increases in public-employee health-care costs and to engage stakeholders in developing long-term reforms.
The superintendent introduced the recommendation as item 12c and said the resolution echoes similar actions being taken across New Jersey. "This is a resolution to go to the governor's office...calling on the governor and the state legislature to provide immediate short term relief from the honest unsustainable increased health care costs experienced by school districts," the superintendent said.
Board members noted the resolution grew out of ongoing legislative engagement and representation by board members. After brief acknowledgement of that work, a motion to adopt the resolution was made and seconded; the board approved the measure by roll call and directed that copies be sent to local legislators and the governor.
The resolution is a formal request for state action; it does not itself change district policy or budgets. The superintendent said it is intended to advocate for relief and to prompt meaningful stakeholder discussion at the state level. Next steps recorded in the meeting: the board will forward the passed resolution to state lawmakers and the governor's office for consideration.
