Board debates bond priorities and denies design contract for Burbank High concession building

Supporters said the concession project supports equity for the campus, aids PTA fundraising, and helps the high school host more home events. The designer’s package presented to the board included an estimated construction budget and design fee; trustees noted the design request is one step in a multi‑phase process and that contracts at this stage can lead to larger construction costs later.
When the motion to approve the GO Architects design agreement came to a vote it failed on a 2–3 voice count. Other facilities items advanced: the board approved land‑survey and geotechnical contracts needed before site design on proposed softball fields and approved a pool of CEQA firms to support Measure ABC projects.
What to watch: Trustees asked staff to provide clearer priority lists and timelines linking bond projects, SFOC (Site Facilities Oversight Committee) input and budget phasing so future decisions can be weighed against urgent ADA and safety needs.
