City staff used the Jan. 6 City Council meeting to publicize several upcoming community engagement and economic-development events.
Staff said a town hall is scheduled for Thursday at 6 p.m. to gather public input on an EPA grant application for the Marysville Hotel, including community views on demolition, hazardous materials and potential redevelopment; staff said the meeting is part of grant conditions and that at least one additional meeting will be held before council consideration. The town hall will be held in the council chambers and is intended to inform the EPA grant process and gather community sentiment.
Staff also announced a developer luncheon on Jan. 21 at noon (RSVP only). City staff said they had sent roughly 30 invitations and received about 24–25 RSVPs within hours, signaling strong early interest; an agenda will be shared with council before the event.
Additionally, staff listed a series of ribbon cuttings in the coming 60 days for local businesses including Hard Times Barbecue, Quenchies and Munchies, a frozen yogurt shop and a children’s event center on 3rd Street. The city plans to support these openings but said it is not running the events. Staff announced a Marysville 170th birthday celebration scheduled for Feb. 5 at the Elks Lodge, including historic presentations and a community invitation; staff said the anniversary observances will kickoff a year of monthly events.
Staff also noted they are coordinating with neighboring jurisdictions on regional observances of the U.S. 250th anniversary.
Council members praised public works for leaf cleanup and thanked staff and volunteers for recent holiday events.
