The Marysville City Council on Jan. 6 adopted an ordinance amending municipal code references for fences and signs to align with the city’s new downtown specific plan and the corresponding, newly named zoning districts.
Kathy Pease, the consultant on the downtown plan, told the council that the new specific plan established different district names and mappings but the municipal code still pointed to the old district labels. She said the ordinance is a cleanup meant to remove ambiguity so property owners and staff know which sign and fence regulations apply in each newly designated district. "So this is basically a cleanup, to make sure that there's no ambiguity," Pease said.
Pease said the planning commission reviewed the item and unanimously recommended forwarding the regular ordinance to the council. After brief clarifying questions — council members asked whether the proposal changed the substance of sign rules or only the district mapping — the council moved, seconded and voted to waive the first reading and approve the ordinance; the motion carried with no recorded opposition.
The ordinance will be effective 30 days after adoption. The council did not record individual roll-call votes in the meeting transcript.
