The Marysville City Council unanimously approved a motion Jan. 6 to recognize Dec. 26, 2025 as a city holiday for calendar year 2025 only.
The mayor said the council had just learned of a recent federal proclamation designating an extra holiday following Christmas and asked whether the council wished to extend that observance to city employees for the prior year. Staff noted the federal notice arrived on short notice and that the city ordinance requires council action to extend a federal holiday to city personnel. After brief discussion about whether the declaration applied only to the most recent holiday year and whether more congressional action would be needed to make the change permanent, a motion to approve the 2025 observance was moved and seconded and carried with no recorded opposition.
Council members framed the vote as an administrative, year-specific decision rather than a permanent change to the holiday schedule. The council also approved routine consent calendar items 1–4 in a single unanimous vote at the start of the meeting.
The council did not record individual roll-call votes in the meeting transcript. The decision on whether to adopt the date in future years would require separate action by the council if federal status changes.
