Council approves three-year FOP contract with 4% annual raises and other pay adjustments

Macomb — The Macomb City Council approved a collective bargaining agreement on June 2 with the Illinois Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge 189, following a series of negotiation sessions.
City staff told council the agreement provides 4% salary increases in each of the next three years, a 1% increase to shift differentials, and increases to certain longevity steps (steps 2, 4, 6 and 9). Staff also reported adjustments to stipends and contract language intended to close a potential loophole the city sought to address. The city framed the agreement as part of recruitment and retention efforts.
City and union representatives were thanked for their cooperation in negotiations. Council moved and approved the agreement by roll call; no dissenting votes were recorded in the meeting minutes.
Staff and council said they consider the contract a fair resolution that balances fiscal and personnel priorities. Council additionally authorized the committee of the whole to act next week on a separate proposed collective bargaining agreement with Teamsters Local 627.
