Macomb — The Macomb City Council on June 2 authorized several police-related purchases and approved staff applying for a state Organized Retail Crime grant to support technology purchases.
The council approved the purchase of two Dodge Durango squad cars following the police chief’s presentation and authorized a five‑year purchase agreement with Axon Enterprises for 24 Conducted Energy Devices (tasers). Both items were described to council as following committee review and the motions were approved by roll call.
During the meeting the police chief also presented the Organized Retail Crime grant opportunity administered by the Illinois Attorney General and asked permission to submit an application despite an approaching deadline. The chief said the application seeks roughly $26,000 for the first year and that the grant requires no local match. "We're asking for the first year…which I believe was the 26,000 number…and there's no match," the chief said.
Council authorized submission of the grant application by roll call. Staff noted the cameras for the license‑plate program were not yet installed and no payments had been made; the department had previously secured council approval to pursue the Flock license-plate-reader program.
The council recorded approval for the vehicle and equipment purchases and directed staff to proceed with the grant application process.
