Macomb — The owner seeking a Class R+ extended-hours liquor license for the former Rocky's Bar and Grill at 1420 West Jackson Street addressed the Macomb City Council on June 2 during a public hearing and outlined plans to reopen and modernize the restaurant.
The petition was first introduced by staff when the council opened the hearing; staff said the petitioner had been delayed by travel but had filed the required notices and background checks and that the police department’s investigation showed no issues that would prevent the license’s creation. Miss Scalf summarized the application, noting the business plans to continue as a restaurant and to include gaming machines.
When the petitioner arrived later in the meeting, he apologized for the delay and told the council he "plans to reopen the Rocky's Sports Bar & Grill in the great city of Macomb" and intends to operate "in accordance to this community" while modernizing the venue and preserving the restaurant’s traditional menu.
Council did not take final action on the license at the June 2 meeting. Instead, the item was placed on next week’s committee-of-the-whole agenda so council members can hear additional details and questions. Staff confirmed notices were posted at the property and mailed to owners within 250 feet, and the city published the hearing notice in the community news brief.
The next procedural step is the committee review; council members asked the petitioner to attend that meeting in case additional information is requested.
