Argo leaders report Spring Fest success, city awarded $2,500 America 250 grant

Mayor Randy Hettich told the Argo City Council on April 27 that the April 18 Spring Fest "was successful" and that the city had received positive feedback from vendors and attendees. He thanked churches, volunteers, the Argo Junior City Council and other organizers for their work.

Alicia Vincent, chair of Argo Park and Recreation, provided event details to the council: the festival included 24 vendors, 30 booths, six food trucks, a car show with more than 30 vehicles and a children’s area. Vincent reported total event revenue of $1,229.00, expenses of $845.00 and a net profit of approximately $384.00. She also said the City was approved for a $2,500 America 250 grant and that the committee would begin discussing projects and community celebration ideas tied to the nation’s 250th anniversary.

Council business that preceded the report included routine approvals: the council approved the April 27 agenda and the minutes of the April 13 work session and regular meeting. Councilperson Dennis Griffin moved to approve the agenda and minutes; Councilperson Mike King seconded both motions. The council also voted to move the regularly scheduled May 25 meeting to May 18 because of the Memorial Day holiday. Mayor Randy Hettich called for roll-call votes on the motions; the votes recorded for the three procedural motions were Griffin — yes, Suggs — yes, King — yes, and Mayor Hettich — yes. All three motions carried.

Members of the Argo Junior City Council told the council they are exploring a leadership grant and outlined plans for a local weather awareness event in partnership with St. Clair County EMA. The proposed event would include weather-safety information, appearances by local meteorologists and weather radio giveaways.

The council is next scheduled to meet May 18, 2026, following the approved schedule change.
