At the start of its April 7 meeting the Taft City Council read and signed a proclamation declaring April 12–18, 2026 as National Public Safety Telecommunications Week.
Councilmember Shafeera read the proclamation, noting the week’s origin and the role of telecommunicators as the first critical contact for emergency services. Council members and public-safety leaders recognized dispatch staff on the dais; Councilman Silvera and law-enforcement representatives presented the proclamation to Stacy, identified in the meeting as one of the dispatchers. The police chief and other officials praised dispatchers as ‘‘the hub’’ of department operations and thanked them for professionalism, calm communications and life‑saving coordination.
The recognition was ceremonial and no formal vote was required. Council encouraged public appreciation and posed for photographs with uniformed personnel following the presentation.
