Public works readies $2.6M culvert contract, two road projects and a septic bid for commissioner action

Public works staff briefed the Cowlitz County Board of Commissioners on several items slated for the next meeting, including a consent contract award for the Tower Road culvert repair, two resolutions creating county road project numbers and a motion item to award a septic replacement contract for a mobile-home park.

Savannah, a public-works staff member, said the Quick Brothers contract for the Tower Road culvert (second phase of a project begun after the 2023 failure) is on the consent calendar for $2.6 million; staff said the board had already accepted the award, which is why it appears on consent. She also said the department will present resolutions to create project numbers for Mill Creek Bridge (project 821) and Whitewater Road Curve Improvement (project 822) so the county can proceed with design and right-of-way work.

A motion item scheduled for the meeting recommends awarding the Camelot Large Onsite Septic (LOSS) project, which will replace sewer service for the Camelot Mobile Home Park. Patrick, from public works, said the recommended contract amount is about $799,519 and that nine bids were received; staff said they were comfortable with the competitive response.

Staff also noted a continuation of a public hearing on vacating a portion of Tot Road will occur at 9:30 a.m. the next day and that the Port will send a representative.

Ending: The board will consider the consent contract, the two project-number resolutions and the Camelot LOSS motion at the next scheduled meeting; no final actions were recorded during the briefing session.
