Fillmore Unified board approves staffing resolutions, donations and new courses in unanimous vote

The Fillmore Unified School District Board of Trustees on May 5 unanimously approved a package of personnel resolutions, donations, course approvals and staffing changes as the district prepares for next school year.
The board announced it had accepted in closed session a settlement agreement related to an employee reduction‑in‑force (employee no. 2972, case no. 20260407222) and also accepted the resignation and general release of employee no. 2758; the board reported both actions and recorded unanimous roll‑call votes. Later in open session trustees approved two formal resolutions: Resolution No. 25‑26‑20 to terminate classified services for lack of work and/or funds and Resolution No. 25‑26‑21 to reduce particular certificated services (including one FTE reduction in an education‑specialist extensive‑needs position). Notices to affected classified employees were to be issued by May 14, 2026, per the board agenda materials.
Superintendent Shefferly told trustees that Ventura County Office of Education had issued a positive certification on the district's second interim report but flagged projected deficit spending and that the district is drawing down reserves. "We are continuing to look at reductions in the upcoming school years," Shefferly said, urging fiscal caution as the district plans for staffing changes.

Trustee Balick thanked donors for "their generosity and support of our students."
On staffing and program expansions, trustees approved three new high‑school courses (AP Computer Science A; English 9 Honors Ethnic Studies; and Beginning Piano) and moved to post them to UC Doorways upon approval; the AP course cost was described as roughly $2,200/year covered by a grant and piano equipment paid from Proposition 28 funds. The board also approved reopening one District computer‑technician classified position (funded through LCAP) and creating a new secondary music teacher position to serve Sierra High School and Fillmore High School (funded by Proposition 28). Trustee Morris moved to approve the new courses; the motion passed 5–0.
The meeting closed with announcements of upcoming regular board meetings and planned recognitions for staff and retirees.
