Bond and facilities update: athletic complex progressing, library delayed by DSA directive, preschool playground complete

Assistant Superintendent of Business Services Denise Barrington provided the board an April Bond & Facilities update on April 21, reporting progress across multiple Measure G-funded projects and other site improvements.
Barrington said AMG & Associates is the contractor of record for the Fillmore High athletic complex, with the main gym block walls completed and structural work progressing; the current change in contract price was described as just over $283,000 (about a 1% change) and the project’s estimated completion remains February 2027. She noted the library portion of a library/career center project is substantially complete but the career center is delayed pending a DSA change-order directive relating to a T-bar ceiling; work will resume once DSA issues the directive and the team anticipates completion by mid-May for that project once cleared.
A preschool at San Cayetano Elementary (San Kai Tunnel in the transcript) received a fast-tracked playground funded by Child Development funds; Barrington said wrought-iron fencing, play surfacing and equipment are installed and preschoolers are already using the space. Barrington also previewed summer work: Fillmore Middle School gym HVAC and state shade structure projects now have DSA approval and a May 1 bid opening; Moore Middle School exterior painting is in solicitation and the Fillmore High kitchen/cafeteria modernization is in final design with an anticipated DSA submission in approximately one month.
Trustees asked for confirmation about DSA sign-offs and the status of remaining uncertified projects; staff said only a few projects remain uncertified and that efforts are underway to close them. Trustees thanked the bond manager and project staff for progress on long-running projects and encouraged continued attention to timely permitting and contracting.
Barrington also noted a recently awarded project to Coast Construction for equipment upgrades at two elementary sites funded by the Child Nutrition Fund (amount quoted as $449,000) and design work to transition stadium restrooms to city sewer with the city of Fillmore’s cooperation.
