Board approves MOU with CSEA on security camera recordings and AI features

The Fillmore Unified School District board voted unanimously to approve a memorandum of understanding with CSEA Chapter 421 governing use of security-camera recordings that include artificial-intelligence or "smart" features.
Superintendent Christine Shefferly thanked CSEA President Derek Olson and district negotiators for a collaborative process that yielded the MOU. Shefferly said the purpose of the cameras is "to strengthen and enhance campus security, ultimately for students and staff," and she said she would send a message to all staff to reiterate the purpose and the terms.
Trustees voted 5–0 to approve the agreement, which staff described as clarifying the intended use of recordings and the technology features under the union-negotiated arrangement.
The motion followed public discussion and the superintendent's remarks about maintaining safety while respecting employee concerns.
