"This year, I'm proud to announce excellence in education. We'll be giving $45,392.04 to classroom activities in our district," Rick Waskey said as he listed grant recipients and amounts that ranged from smaller instructional supports to larger classroom projects.
Grant awards named in the meeting included funds for flexible special‑education learning spaces, district‑wide theater programming, a kindness retreat at Abe Lincoln Elementary, literacy projects for multiple schools, and a larger award to support Monroe High School band. Recipients named included Alexander Purdy Veil, Brenda Davis, Joe Lysinger, Brent Niemeyer, Rebecca Jablonski, and Aaron Henke, among others.
Before the grant presentations, the board recognized several Student of the Month winners from elementary, middle and high school buildings. Teachers and administrators praised students for leadership, perseverance and mentorship; several students received certificates and Barnes & Noble gift cards.
The grants will be distributed through the Excellence in Education process; administrators noted ceremonial "big check" presentations and follow‑up instructions for grantees. The board recessed briefly before continuing regular business.
