The Yanceyville Town Council on May 14 voted unanimously to schedule a public hearing on the recommended Fiscal Year 2021-22 budget for June 8, 2021, at 7:30 p.m.
Councilman Keith Tatum moved to set the hearing during the council's next regular meeting; Mayor Pro Tem Odessa Gwynn seconded the motion and it passed with a unanimous vote. Mayor Alvin Foster called the special meeting to order at 12:00 p.m. and noted that council rules and electronic meeting procedures reflect revisions to the North Carolina open meeting law.
The special meeting was held in person at the Yanceyville Museum of Art/Yanceyville Municipal Services Building and conducted electronically via WebEx because of COVID-19. Mayor Pro Tem Odessa Gwynn attended remotely; Council Members Margie Badgett-Lampkin and Brian Massey were absent. Kamara Barnett attended as Interim Town Manager/Clerk and prepared the meeting minutes.
The council opened a public-comment period limited to agenda items and recorded that no comments were received. Following the scheduling motion, Councilman Tatum moved to adjourn; Mayor Foster seconded and the council adjourned by unanimous vote.
The scheduled public hearing on June 8 offers residents an opportunity to review and comment on the recommended FY 2021-22 budget before the council takes any final action.
