"AI is just a tool. It's not replacement of the work that we do," she said.
Presenters described a three‑tier 'AI assignment stoplight' for classroom use: red‑light assignments (AI use prohibited), yellow‑light (ask the teacher) and green‑light (teacher‑approved, rare in early grades). For K–4 the guidance assumes most assignments are red unless a teacher explicitly permits use; for grades 5–12 the district would allow more limited instructional uses but require disclosure, fact‑checking and use of only district‑licensed AI tools.
Next steps outlined by presenters include mandatory staff training, integration of guidance into the parent‑student handbook and scope & sequence, development of an AI committee and a soon‑to‑be‑distributed survey for stakeholder feedback. Presenters also said the guidelines will be posted on the district website and mass communicated via ParentSquare.
