"Every child should be afforded their best opportunity to develop speech because every child deserves a voice," the mayor said while presenting the proclamation and inviting Carter and his family to the front.
The proclamation called on physicians, educators, policymakers, insurers and elected officials in New Lenox to recognize the need for adequate speech therapy services and support for families affected by CAS. The mayor thanked the family for attending and encouraged the community to ‘‘spread the word’’ about available resources.
The board did not take formal action beyond issuing the proclamation; the recognition was ceremonial.
