KANDIYOHI COUNTY, Minn. — The Kandiyohi County Board approved a one-year lease extension for the Prairie Lakes Youth Program on Feb. 17, setting annual rent at $43,790.40 (monthly $3,649.20), the county administrator said.
County Administrator Kelsey Baker, who said she had discussed options with the Prairie Lakes executive director and a county commissioner who serves on the joint powers board, described the lease as a temporary arrangement while Prairie Lakes continues to evaluate building and site options. "Their annual rent is $43,790.40, making their monthly rent for the one building $3,649.20," Baker said, adding that the figure equates to about $2 per square foot.
The agreement would run from March 14, 2026, through March 31, 2027, with options noted in the contract for extensions. Commissioners who also sit on the Prairie Lakes joint powers board described the lease as reasonable and stressed the importance of maintaining the facility for youth programs and county services.
Next steps: Baker said the Prairie Lakes board will consider the agreement at its meeting; the county will revisit rent if Prairie Lakes decides to remain long-term in the county-managed building.
