Public-health staff report CHW program serving 255 cases, maternal-subcontract plan and other updates

Mills County Public Health and Fremont program staff reported on maternal health subcontract planning, the Mills Community Health Worker program’s 255 cases served since launch, environmental health inspection counts, and multiple outreach and workforce development activities.
Staff from Mills County Public Health (MCPH) and Fremont program representatives reported program updates and service metrics at the March 16 joint meeting in Tabor, Iowa.
Sarah Guilliatt, representing the Fremont Maternal Health Program, said Fremont plans to begin drafting a subcontract with Mills County Public Health so MCPH registered nurses can provide maternal health services in Fremont; Fremont would reimburse MCPH for associated costs. Rachel Reis, presenting the Mills Community Health Worker (CHW) program report, introduced a new pamphlet and asset map and said the program has served 255 total cases since its May launch, including one-on-one case management and repeat clients. Reis also highlighted monthly community meetings hosted at the MCPH office.
Katelyn Murtfeld delivered combined Mills and Fremont administrative and nursing updates. She said leadership is transitioning to the 8 Foundational Public Health Services model and continues partnerships such as a VA Open House and Prevent Child Abuse Council meetings. Murtfeld outlined equity-focused programming (CHW, IRRT), free immunizations available through Vaccines for Children (VFC) and Vaccines for Adults (VFA), Homemaker services and Parents as Teachers, and upcoming events including the Festival of the Young Child and a Matter of Balance class beginning April 7. She reported recent disease surveillance noting one Cryptosporidium case in Mills County and discussed workforce development opportunities including Iowa Public Health Conference attendance and CPR and AMOB training.
Kim Frink summarized the Parents As Teachers program, reporting 13 active families and ongoing outreach to increase enrollment. Matt Scott provided environmental health statistics for February: 21 well tests in Mills and 3 in Fremont, zero well permits in Mills and two in Fremont, two septic permits in Mills and three in Fremont, two septic inspections in Mills and five in Fremont, one pool inspection and one nuisance complaint in Tabor.
No public comments were offered during the public-comment period. The boards recorded the program reports in minutes and continued routine oversight and budget accountability. MCPH staff noted continuing community outreach and events scheduled for spring.
