Kandiyohi County OKs Eagle Lake Trail sponsorship, maintenance commitment and final payment for 2025 seal coat project

The Kandiyohi County Board of Commissioners on Jan. 20, 2026, approved a trio of public‑works items: the county will act as sponsoring agency for a planned Eagle Lake Trail rehabilitation (Resolution 2026‑05), commit to maintain the rehabilitated 1.3‑mile segment for 20 years if funds are awarded (Resolution 2026‑06), and accept completion of the county’s 2025 seal‑coat roadway project and authorize final payment to the contractor.
Public Works Director Mel Odens told the board the Eagle Lake Trail (built in 2013 with DNR funds) connects to the State Trail and that the county’s sponsorship is part of a grant submission for future funding. "It's a good connection to the State Trail from Eagle Lake," Odens said. The board approved both resolutions and authorized the chair and administrator to sign necessary documents.
On the 2025 seal‑coat project, Odens reported the contractor Asphalt Surface Technology (St. Cloud) completed five miles at a contract value of $161,930.97; the board authorized final payment of $8,409.75 (the withheld 5% retainage). The board voted to accept the project and authorize final payment.
