Program of studies overhaul retools CTE; district reports 114 students eligible for gifted services

"The CTE section was completely restructured," Miss Garrett said, and the revision adds charts showing career clusters and clear course pathways and credentials after page 45 of the document. The district requested approval to add masonry courses (Masonry I and II) and noted cosmetology and the nurse‑aide sequence were changed to meet state requirements; the nurse‑aide program now matches Virginia Board of Nursing wording and requires a 140‑hour course with a 40‑hour clinical experience.
Miss Garrett also provided updated gifted‑program numbers: 29 elementary, 54 middle and 31 high school students (114 total). Screening results and Governor's School slot allocations were reviewed; the district added three regional Governor's School slots and reported one student accepted to the summer residential Governor's School. The program of studies and gifted updates will return to the board for approval next month.
